The Royal Company of Merchants Signs the Armed Forces Covenant

The Royal Company of Merchants of the City of Edinburgh is pleased to announce that we have formally signed the Armed Forces Covenant and have been awarded the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) Bronze Award.

On the evening of Thursday 18th June, the Covenant was signed by our Master Grant Macrae OBE alongside our newly initiated Honorary Member of the Company, His Grace the Duke of Hamilton & Brandon, Honorary Air Commodore for 603 (City of Edinburgh) Squadron, on behalf of the Ministry of Defence. The Bronze Award was presented to the Master by Air Officer Scotland Air Commodore Mark Northover MBE.

The Covenant is a pledge to support those who serve or have served in the British Armed Forces, ensuring that they are treated with fairness and respect. By becoming a signatory, the Company reinforces its longstanding values of service and civic responsibility and sets out its commitment to supporting those who have dedicated themselves to the nation, both now and in the years ahead.

It was great to welcome representatives from the Royal Navy Reserve, Army and Royal Auxiliary Air Force to witness this historic signing. We were also proud to host a large representation of our Membership. The occasion was marked further by the presence of our Members that have served in HM Forces, who were invited to attend the meeting wearing full-size medals and regimental ties. From newly admitted Members to Old Masters, and even our Senior Company Officer, Graham McDonald, an amazing breadth of service was represented, reflected in the wide array of medals on display.

The Company is proud to stand alongside the Armed Forces community and to play its part in upholding this important commitment.
