The Royal Company of Merchants Announces New Charity Partnerships Across Edinburgh

The Royal Company of Merchants Announces New Charity Partnerships Across Edinburgh

The Royal Company of Merchants is pleased to announce four new charity partnerships that will support individuals and families across Edinburgh, with a focus on reducing inequality, tackling isolation and poverty, and strengthening access to opportunity.

After careful consideration, our charities committee have selected four highly respected local organisations whose work closely aligns with our values and commitment to supporting local Edinburgh community wellbeing. These partnerships reflect our belief that locally led, targeted support delivers lasting impact.

Our Charity Partners

Big Hearts Community Trust
Supporting the Big Hearts Memories Project, a dementia‑friendly community programme helping older people (65+) and unpaid carers reduce isolation, stay socially connected, and improve wellbeing.

RCOM’s support will help meet rising demand, supporting at least 90 older people and 50 carers each year.

The WHY Project
A grassroots youth work charity in South West Edinburgh providing safe, inclusive spaces for young people in an area heavily affected by child poverty. Activities include youth clubs, breakfast clubs, holiday programmes, volunteering, and hot meals.

Funding will help formalise accredited awards and youth pathways, improving progression, confidence, and access to education and employment support.

Community Help & Advice Initiative (CHAI)
CHAI provides trauma‑informed, whole‑household advice to people across Edinburgh, including families, young parents, working‑age adults, and older people facing welfare, housing, health, or cost‑of‑living challenges.

RCOM’s support will help sustain frontline advice services, respond to emerging crises, and prevent issues escalating into homelessness or severe financial hardship.

Smart Works Scotland
Since 2014, Smart Works Scotland has helped over 3,000 women overcome barriers to employment through professional dressing and interview coaching.

In the first year of our partnership, 300 women will be supported, with at least 60% expected to secure employment within one month and over 90% reporting increased confidence.

Our Commitment

Through these partnerships, RCOM is proud to support compassionate, practical services that make a real difference at every stage of life. Together, we aim to strengthen communities, reduce inequality, and create opportunities for people across Edinburgh to thrive.

We look forward to sharing updates on the impact of these partnerships with our members.
