The Golf Club AGM & Annual Dinner 2026

The Royal Company of Merchants of the City of Edinburgh Golf Club held their AGM and Annual Dinner in the Hall on Thursday 19th March. Following the formalities, Members enjoyed a splendid dinner, courtesy of Pinkertons, and fine wines from the Club's extensive cellar.

The club membership has expanded significantly in the last two years, and four new members were in attendance at the AGM.

New Captain, Gordon Black commented, "The members are looking forward to a record number of matches and outings to course such as Craigielaw, Royal Burgess, West Kilbride, Baberton, Rennaisance and Muirfied. This year, the club will participate for the first time in the Prince Arthur Cup at Walton Heath, and are optimistic of some more impromptu outings to Prestwick, amongst others."

With the election of the new Captain, Gordon Black, the club paid tribute to the outgoing Captain, Michael Wood, following over 10 years' sterling service to the club as Secretary and then Captain. Secretary, Graham Harper commented, "Since I have been a member of this club, Mike has fulfilled the role of either Captain or Secretary. I would like to thank him for his efforts and support to me when I assumed the Secretary role." The club presented Mr Wood with two bottles of fine french wine as a token of their thanks.

The club caters for all levels of golfer, from beginners to single figure handicaps. The matches and outings are very informal, with the emphasis on enjoyment and fellowship. Through our friends and members we are able to secure a number of fine courses at very much reduced rates available publicly.
